This model(WITHOUT an antenna on the base) is the latest version which now includes the ability to answer any INCOMING calls through the pendant with 2 way communication. This allows you to call the person to see if they are ok. The pendant is far more practical to wear around the neck on a lanyard than any cordless phone. A 2 sec press on the front blue button starts the call function and also answers incoming calls. A grey button on the back activates the test functions which tell you by voice that the pendant battery is ok and that the unit is functioning.There are a few things about the pendant: it does not have a ringer- this must be the reason the rechargeable battery in it can last for weeks- so it is still important to have plenty of loud ringers in the living area if you want the person to be able to answer using the pendant, and there is a delay between the 2 sec button push and the time when the call is picked up during which the phones in the area will ring 2 or 3 more times. This is a little confusing at first and takes a while to get used to.The system seems to work well and the sound quality both ways through the pendant is very good.

Took two to get one that worked, but it works!

Got this for my elderly mother who was worrying about falling and not being able to get up or call for help. The first one that arrived had a battery charging issue. The company was extremely helpful and responsive, first sending her a free battery and when that failed to solve the problem, a complete replacement unit. This one has been working trouble free for several weeks now and hopefully will continue to do so.Would gladly pay more for a quality American made product but that desire seems to fall on the deaf ears of the manufacturers who would rather ship two of everything than end their reliance on poor quality manufacturers in China. Chinese made or not, the second unit works as advertised and is giving my mother the peace of mind that she needs without spending the exorbitant monthly charges for a monitored service. This unit will call up to 4 different numbers (with foolproof technology that won't blindly leave a message on an answering machine), and finally 911 (if none of the "up to 4 programmed numbers" answers).Be aware that although programming in the 4 numbers was fairly easy, there's no way that my 85 year old mother could have done that herself. An elderly person (who would need this in the first place) would need someone younger and a little more on top of their game to program it to work. It's not hard, but there aren't too many 85 year olds that would be able to program it without assistance. Using it is another matter, it's stait forward and easy. Push (and hold for about a second) the blue button on the front of the pendant and it jumps into action. It's even loud enough for my very hard of hearing mother to hear. I was worried about that going into this but it's quite loud and even she can hear it.

Good product, good price, quick delivery

We purchased this for my mom, who is in her mid 80's and lives alone in her own house. It was about as easy to set up as a product like this could be. The instructions and menu prompts were clear. It works fine - just as advertised. We were a little concerned because we have DSL, but that didn't cause any problem. The only very minor complaints we have are that you have to hold down the emergency button for awhile and make sure it is actually dialing (a quick press probably won't do it). That makes sense, to avoid accidental activation, but the person who will use it should practice to make sure they understand how to operate it (they can't just give it a quick press and wait for help). It also takes a little time to dial, and can be a little confusing for both parties when it asks the person called to press a button on the phone to verify that he/she is a live person and not an answering machine. Again, I can't think of a better way to handle this, but it is a little odd - it can sound to my mom like it is asking her to press a button on her phone (which she probably doesn't have with her). That said, any of these minor issues can be overcome with just a little regular practice to get used to how it operates (maybe use it to make a weekly phone call), and I think these "shortcomings" are probably necessary. It would also be nice if the pendant were a little smaller, but given the 2-way functionality, that may not be possible. All in all, a very well thought-out product that works well.
