Self installation - exactly what it says
By fulltimerealtor
I just set up the phones in our small business. I have not had time yet to read the manual and get all the features set up, but all lines are working and I did not have to hire any technician. The phone service and internet service providers ran only to the inside of the building and I was able to set it up entirely by myself from there. I did buy the wireless adapters for each phone, so absolutely no inside wiring was needed other than the service at the main box. It was easy to set up and install. The only thing that took me a little time was securing the network but I'm not a technical guru. Both phone and internet service is networked to the phone and connected computer with a wireless adapter, and I also hooked up my network printer using an additional router connected to one of the wireless adapters. So far so good, the system has been exactly what I expected. Looking forward to learning and using the features.8/28/12 Update to review: Been using the system about 4 weeks and EVERY day there is something I have to "fix". Yesterday it was the time - it decided it thought it was night hours and the phones weren't ringing in the office, so I had to change from Internet time to manual time. There's always some kind of conflict between the internet and the phones. I ended up running hard lines to try to resolve issues we've been having (randomly some stations will have both phone and computer internet & others will only have the phone working and the internet isn't working) Driving me a little crazy having to be tech support every day. Hoping the bugs will get worked out because it IS a neat system: we get an email with an audio clip whenever a voicemail is left, and the MOH is much better than our old analog system, and I really want to get to set up a couple of remote phones for our home office workers, but I can't be on-call tech support continuously. We'll see if the system starts behaving properly once I have it all figured out, if ever.

Capable but oddly flawed
By Joshua Johnston
I purchased this phone system to use for a small office of 6 incoming lines with 10 extensions, and the overall experience has been quite positive with a few odd quirks that seem like oversights by the software developers. To keep this short, I'll say that setup wasn't particularly complex but that post-installation support has certainly been trickier. Here are a few issues I have encountered during the first month of operation with the system.Voicemail setup seems somewhat oddly restricted and jumbled. For example, if you are setting up a voicemail box to be used by more than one extension, such as a situation where you have two receptionists, you need to use one of the physical buttons from the X-2020's selection of 4 line buttons as the Voicemail button on the handset cannot be remapped. This not only adds complexity and user confusion, but it subtracts from a vital area of the phone's layout and almost singlehandedly necessitates the purchase of the 24 button sidecars for any system with more than 2-3 lines. The instructions are certainly better than actually expected, but operating the voicemail has been tricky. There is no clear way to "restart" a message you're listening to, or to pause one in progress. Additionally, there is no support for not requiring a password from an extension. These are issues that could probably be fixed in software fairly easily, but for some reason they've been left as an oversight by XBlue or their upstream supplier. With a (fairly) small amount of extra work, these phones could be an easy five stars. But I can't give them more than three, due to the issues mentioned above.I will however give XBlue support at least four informal stars, because every time I've contacted them they've been happy to make a phonecall instead of deal with email. I think this is a company that works very hard for your money, and with just a little engineering effort could really hit a home run.
