Beware...this is a range extender!

To quote the manual "The DRX402 Multirange charger extends the range of your base in all directions, including up and down." It works with the DECT4066, DECT4086, or DECT4096 base units. Each of these bases can support up to TWO DRX402 range extenders.You should order the DCX400 if all you need is an additional handset and charger.With that warning, this unit works as advertised. We use the range extender on the 2nd floor of a house with thick plastered walls that eats up RF signals. The range extender provides 4 bars of signal strength on the upper floor. Our older Uniden 5.8GHz phones barely worked on the upper floor.

Just Not Thrilled

To really know how I feel about this product you have to read my longer review under the Uniden 4906 System itself.The BEST thing about either of the Uniden handsets [400 or 402] are their battery life. I've not seen anything comparable home or cell use. Program it for three hours, talk for another three and then leave it off its charger for twelve and you don't drop even ONE bar. Outstanding metal hydrides.As far as handsets go I never had a range problem and don't with this one either.Finding that BUTTON on the BOTTOM side, now that was a challenge. You need it to register the base. Yes on this system you register this special base not just the handsets.The handset is nice for small hands.I love its fake leather textured back.I do get a hum whether using its receiver speaker or it speakerphone. For that reason can't give it more stars.I also wish the handset had real lit LINE USE indicators. The tiny blue background screen leaves me a lot to desire.

Ahhh ....

Well my house is long (155') and we were looking for this to extend the range to the bedroom. It kinda does but, not quite. Sometimes cuts out and sometimes works fine. It just is not consistent and therefore somewhat annoying. I give this a three star which is just about intermediate because of the range. The phone is made a little cheaper than previous models of this series but again, not enough to matter that much. It is far superior to the Panasonic we had before this system and that is a big plus.The phone has all the features we need and yes, I would buy it again.
