Better than average for a 2-line phone

Good strong signal for handsets. However, the slim line and slick plastic of the handsets look great but are hard to hold. There is no way to position them to be stable except in their chargers. Gets to be a pain when not near the charger.One major complaint! Although the setup asks you to establish your home area code, it still does not account for the 1+ for long distance numbers. So, if you receive a call from another area code, you cannot simply bring up the call in the list and hit Talk. This is REALLY STUPID especially in this day and age.But the system is better than others so I guess I'll just have to live with it. I may not next time.

Uniden phones not for Europe

Living in the Netherlands and having decided that a 2-line analog phone was needed, I set about checking reviews and the Uniden 4096 came up highly recommended. I even read reviews in Dutch praising the phone which is really strange because the phone has definate issues in Holland. However, there doesn't seem to be ANY two line wireless phones of any make on the market in the Netherlands. So I went with the Uniden thinking that if the power supplies weren't multi-voltage, I could always replace them with 220v AC/DC transformers. When the phones came, I was shocked to see that Uniden doesn't use AC/DC transformers but uses AC/AC transformers instead. The phones are working perfectly with 220/110 converters with the phone transformers plugged in to those but I haven't yet found 220/110 converters for the needed voltages (every model uses different voltages: 7.7v for the base unit, 8v for the mobile chargers and 6v for the MultiRange charger). Another issue was customs. Customs held the phones for more than a week and then charged me EUR 66. This was after paying a LOT of money for fast shipping. So aside from all that, I can say we've been very happy with the phones. They don't have the range of my old ISDN phones but I can still walk with them anywhere on my property (just not to the neighbors or down the street). Voice quality is somewhere between acceptable and good and they're very simple to use. I miss some features that I saw in reviews, namely keeping the address book automatically in sync between all phones. Another minor grievance: the chargers have a rather bright light that's always on which is annoying in a dark room at night. Going from ISDN to analog, I was surprized that the phones dial only after you put in the whole number. I don't know if all analog phones do that and it's no issue really other than it takes a few seconds longer before the phone starts ringing when making a call. Also, dialing from the phone book is a little more complex for line 2 than it is for the default line 1. Rather than just selecting an entry and pressing the green button to dial line 1, you have to select the entry, press a different SELECT key, select the number (there can be 2) and press the SELECT key again and then finally you press the Line 2 button. It's quickly become nearly automatic but thought it might be worth mentioning. Finally, the phones look really nice. So the Uniden 4096 is a great phone for places with 110 volt electricity with simple to use features and a good solid feel in the hand. Delivery was also good and on time with an e-mail that gave a link so I could track it's progress (at least until it got into Customs). Don't bother paying for rush delivery if you're crossing borders - it's expensive and Customs will take as much time as they want anyway. And if you live where voltage is 220v, neither Uniden or large electronic shops will be able to help you with the phones weird power supply requirements.

Excellent 2 line multi-handset phone

This product is exactly as advertised. It's sound quality is crystal clear. It's range is beyond what we need. The extra handsets are convenient. There are still features I haven't used, as I only use it as a two-line cordless phone. The speaker phone feature on each of the handsets is a nice bonus. We have not needed to use the multirange handset yet. No interference with our home wireless internet. The mute key, Hold key, are easily visible. Conference feature works fine. Intercom works fine. I Highly recommend it.
