Works like a charm

I love this gadget. Now I can talk on Skype without having to be on my computer. I can also be called with my Skype number now when the computer is off. I'm with the Military in Korea, and i don't have access to a regular phone line. This phone is perfect for that. It was easy to setup and I can even plug in a headset to the phone, and stick the handset in my pocket. Just make sure your headset has the iPod type plug with stereo speakers and microphone on the same plug. It is a little different than a standard which has 2 plugs, one for mike and the other for headphones.I only have a couple of negative comments for the phone.#1. The phone tries to default to calling Skype contacts using their computer. Online Skype contacts can have multiple phone numbers. The phone recognizes the caller by Skype name in the display. When you try and return the call, it tries to contact them on their Skype computer. I have to dial the actual number to get the handset to call them instead of using the call history. This is not the case with people who do not have a Skype account and your Skype contact has a regular phone number as the primary number. I did not see where Skype would allow me to change the default for a Skype user to a phone number instead of the Skype account computer name.#2. Not many ring patterns and most are very quiet. The default ringtone ends up being the loudest, but I'm not fond of melody ringtones. There were not many selections available and all were difficult to hear, especially if asleep.These are just minor incomveniences but do not warrant a lesser score in my opinion. I did a little shopping around for a Skype phone, and i am glad I settled on this one.

Offline and will not register

Got this phone today. Was very easy to set up and is a great looking phone. Was able to make calls immediately through Skype. Calls very clear on both ends. I was very excited about this phone! Now a little frustrated. I was wondering why the blue light on the handset wasnt lighting up. Downloaded the long winded version for the set up instructions from internet (a 1 page simple version of set up instructions came in box so nothing to explain/troubleshoot the blue light not coming on on the handset). Followed the set up instructions to "register" the phone and pushed the "reset" button on the base station and put the handset in the charger per instructions. Phone is "searching for open base station" then I get the message "Open base station could not be found" & they're placed right next to eachother. Blue light is on on base station and is a solid blue, not flashing. NOW I'm "offline please register" and can't seem to get back online. No number to call for help with it. Kinda frustrating. I like the device, good communication quality but1. After a while, it became impossible to access skype contact list from the phone.2. The head set has to be chosen carefully, the manufacturer says..:" The connector is of the mono type and the plug size 3.5 mm. Please note that not all headsets will be suitable. Ask for a set with an impedance of 30 Ohms or higher. We recommend that you use the Plantronics Backbeat 116 headset. "3. While you're talking, you can't put back the device into it's charging station, this would hung up the communication.
