4PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS CORDED
By Cindy A. Osterhout
I did not buy this phone BECAUSE IT IS CORDED. You can go to the Paramount web site, where the phone is manufactured, and buy a longer RED cord if you so desire. I decided to buy a VTech phone. It follows. It also comes in red. The VTech Retro Phone - Light Blue

2Distracting Echo
By Scoushe
Features: removable modular cords for receiver and base, making it possible for user to replace those cords with longer ones, if desired. The modular plugs fit very snug, so there's no chance that they will accidentally slip out if you pull the receiver or phone too far from their respective sockets. The receiver cord clicks into the unit's left side and the wall cord fits into the rear of the phone base, not under the phone. Base and receiver have the weight of an old fashioned phone, unlike our more modern phones that can blow off a desk in a strong crosswind. Unlike the true old fashioned Princess phone, the receiver rests on a single narrow, flimsy looking peg, instead of the two hefty pegs that were on the original Princess cradle. The ringer has two settings (low and high), but it's a modern vibrating sound, not the old bell with the hammer. The high setting is acceptably loud. Unlike the true Princess, as advertised, the rotary dial is actually comprised of push buttons, similar to today's touch phones. However, although the buttons appear translucent, they don't light up, a useful night time feature that has been omitted from the original Princess phone.I have two wall/desk landline phones and was looking for a desk model that takes up less space, and concluded that this red Princess model would fit the bill. Unfortunately, this unit isn't any smaller than the phones I presently have, so it requires the same amount of desk space. If my memory serves me well, the original Princess phone was smaller, so while this phone resembles the original, it apparently was not built to scale. Amazon also sells a pink Crosley phone, but since pink is not my color, I chose this Paramount brand unit. I understand that these newer Princess phones come in other pastel colors, but I only saw black, dark blue, pink, and red on the Amazon web pages, and red was the least unappealing for me. I would have preferred white or beige, but that's not a major issue. For me, the downside with this Paramount phone is the feedback echo that I get when I'm talking to someone and the large size. The other downside is personal: I have arthritis and didn't realize how heavy those old receivers used to be, especially after I've gotten used to the light weight of the landlines that I presently own and the cordless and cell phones that have negligible weights. Weight may not be an issue for others, but the echo is annoying. I also would have liked two strong solid-looking pegs on the cradle and a back light for the dial (something that isn't impossible to include during this age of diode lighting (LED's). I didn't want to trouble myself with returns, so I gave it to someone who will hopefully find some use for it.
