Serviceable, dependable, full-featured land phone that could use more "heft"

Just as I was about to curse this phone (esp. when remembering the marginal operation and dicey quality of my first cordless Uniden phone), I discovered that the problem was not with the phone but a broken connection way down the line. The phone itself--along with the caller ID, answering machine, intercom feature, loudspeaker and volume control--work just fine, storing numerous (currently 59) messages. I've had to turn to the instruction manual a couple of times, which in the first case solved the problem but in the 2nd (connecting an accessory handset), required considerable experimentation (see my review) that, eventually, proved worth the effort for a small but highly versatile and "talented" satellite unit costing twenty bucks .Uniden Accessory Handset for DECT Phones (DCX150)Contrary to its title, the pictured phone seems more brightly lit and colorful than "Loud and Clear." For someone on a budget the unit can easily be recommended. But if you're willing to spend over $50, I'd recommend looking at a newer product from Panasonic or AT&T--or, for that matter, Uniden. Especially during "long" long-distance calls, I increasingly sensed a lack of both robustness and transparency in the sound of the phone. Perhaps the "Loud and Clear" claim was true 6-7 years ago, but I suspect the audio quality of phones has improved since then.

I bought the 3 handset model and it has performed very well for me and m family. The battery life on one of the phones could be better, but it works quite well.
