MagicJack Plus

The MagicJack Plus works great and the price can not be beat, since it includes a year of service. Just set it up using a computer and then connect it to an electrical outlet and router and you have phone service. No computer needed any longer. The quality so far has been as good as Vonage and the best cable phones. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the calls. The only negative thing I can say about it is, you have to dial all calls using the area code even when it is a local call. This is a great deal.KenWebmaster[...]

Disappointing, MagicJack Blocks Calls

I was in the market for a simple VoIP phone and decided to try MagicJack when the "Plus" model came out. The plus does not require a PC to operate. It is a simple device to setup. The setup process does try to up-sale you and you have to click no about a dozen times. The setup does require you to connect the device to a PC and create an account. After that, you don't need the PC. The reason it gets 1 star is that MagicJack blocks calls to many rural phone numbers. Tech support is virtually non-existent. I contacted them 3 times and NEVER got any resolution on the blocked calls. I only got empty promises. As to why the calls are blocked is a topic open for discussion. Googling the problem turned up the most likely scenario of the "Traffic Pumping" problem. The bottom line is that I do not recommend a product that only partially works and has no support.

Things MajicJack don't tell you

I bought the MajicJack Plus earlier in the year. I'm on a rural telephone service with high speed Internet. I spent hours on the phone with tech support because of dropped calls, busy signals when the line was not busy, and poor sound quality. Now and then it worked good, but not dependable. Two months ago, I could not call anyone with it. Back to talking with Techs, and it appears my local rural phone company blocks the calls for a fee, so I'm suppose to buy minutes to use it from MajicJack! What a bunch of garbage, they don't tell you this when you buy the devise. If you are not in the city, don't waste your money on it, buy a calling card.
