4Works well but a little too expensive
By William B. Partridge
I'm a big fan of cradles/docks for phones, especially ones provided by the OEM so they fit well and have a good design. So I was interested in Google/HTC's dock for the Nexus One. I have to say it's a unique dock for two reasons, 1) it doesn't actually connect through the micro-usb port but rather the contact strips on the bottom of the phone and 2) it has bluetooth. The bluetooth allows you to stream audio from your phone to the dock and then from the dock to your stereo or other speaker setup, it's a bit unnecessary but will allow you to listen to music through the stereo even when not docked. The contact strips are both a plus and a negative. It allows easy insertion and removal of the phone since it just sits in the cradle but there's also little holding the phone and if you press at the top of the screen or adjust the volume then it can possibly pop out of the dock. Further, and this is based on my experience with similar charging methods, there's a bit of concern that over time the connection won't always actually connect leading to it not charging all the time (this happened with my Harmony 890, which won't charge in the cradle without something weighing it down). Might not be an issue with this as it appears more of the weight is put on the connection.Overall it's a nice dock, works well, looks great, holds it's place firmly on your desk/table. The only real downside is the price. Because of the bluetooth and audio features the dock retails for about $60, and that's assuming you can find it. But if you can find it at the right price it's really a nice and interesting dock.

4Thinking About Buying a Second
By Kent Borg
The Good: It is great for use on a desk. In an office circumstance it is great to be able to grab it when standing up to get a cup of coffee, etc. And on returning with coffee in hand, it is simple to set into the dock. Plugging in a cable and unplugging is not so instantaneous, and if you get up many times in a day would probably wear out the phone connector. The Less Good: The reason it is easy to grab-and-go is it just sits there, however, bump into it and it will come out of the dock. So it might not be the best thing for a bedside table if you are likely to fumble with it in the dark. The Bad: It IS too easy to bump. Using the touch screen while it is in the dock can easily disconnect it. If you are listening through the Bluetooth connection, this will disrupt the sound, and when it reconnects it will put up the Clock application and disrupt whatever you are doing on the screen. The Clock application is nice, it becomes the new Home when in the dock, it stays on, and kicks in a screensaver after a while. The usual Home is still available as a button in the Clock application. In all, very nice. I wish I had bought a second one at the original price. (One for work, one for home.)It seems odd that there are no other Android phones with set-in docks, there are only plug-based holders.

I found it often difficult to set the phone just right so it would actually charge.
