Love the GOOGLE feature but DON'T LIKE THE PHONE

UPDATE:Well I've had this phone for 6 days now and HATE IT. The base and all its components are fine. Its the handsets. As mentioned before the lighting on the handsets are AWFUL. I tried to get used to it until I had to answer the phone at night and even make a call. YOU CAN'T SEE THE NUMBERS OR ANYTHING ELSE IN THE DARK, or even a little light. The blue backlight doesn't help at all. Now I know numbers on handsets have been in the same place for years but when you're used to a handset that displayed lights behind all the numbers and characters, it very hard to get used to a handset that doesn't. Several times when I meant to hit the "7", I hit the *.I totally regret buying this phone.I bought this phone at Christmas time. Amazon is the perfect place to find GREAT sales items during the holidays.The set up features are basically easy to understand. Make sure you familiarize yourself with the button names and the exact positions of each. The answering machine is easy to set up, the speaker phone is great, the initial charging of the handsets charged quicker than what the manual said, and I LOVE THE GOOGLE FEATURE.ONE MAJOR FLAW THOUGH.... The lighting on the handset is AWFUL! As with most phones when you press a key ALL the button light up. The only buttons that light up are the numbers. Every button above the 1 2 3 does not light up. So if you answer the phone at night you have to guess or familiarize yoursef with the handset to make sure you either answer the call or even hang up the line once you're done. Because of this, I only rated this 3 stars. It may sound picky but when you've used a previous handset for years where ALL the buttons light up, to go to one that doesnt its a bit annoying.If you can get passed that, this phone is great.

I can hardly believe the other reviews are for this phone because I find it to be a great phone. It has a lot of impressive features that phones twice the price don't have and the sound quality is excellent...crisp and clear. I had initially ordered a Uniden Dect 6.0 cordless phone that went back the next day because it had horrible sound quality...like I was listening through a tin can. This is the phone I purchased in its place and it's head over heals better than the Uniden in sound quality and features. Even the ring tone selections are better. I especially love the Do Not Disturb (DND) feature. My last phone had it and it's one of those things that once you have there's no going back. The GOOG 411 is pretty cool too. Not only does it give you the phone number you need but it connects you. FREE. There are a few reasons I rated this phone a 4 instead of a 5. One is because the extra handset got stuck in search mode but it ended up being an easy fix by removing the battery for 5 minutes so it reset itself. The other thing I don't like is the base has a set ring tone that can't be matched up to the handset so when the phone rings you get two different ring tones from the same phone (one from the base and one from the handset). I have to admit that's pretty dumb. Lastly, the light that's in the phone base is blue but it is so bright I have to put something in front of it at night. Those are all issues I can live with because the good outweighs the bad as far as I'm concerned. BTW, I've had this phone for five months.

GREAT PHONE!

I just re-read the six other reviews here which is what prompted me to write this. I've had this phone for over a year now and I can only assume the negative reviews on here are from a handful of units that may have been defective or the phones are in areas where there are unusual circumstances affecting their performance. I operate a small business and my telephone service is important to me. I've found this phone has functioned exactly as the manufacturer (GE) claimed it would. The sound quality is excellent and it offers an abundance of useful features including the FREE GOOGLE 411 directory assistance. The dual keypads on the base unit are very helpful and the speakerphones (on the handsets and base unit) also work well. Although the actual digits on the handset keypads are not illuminated, the illuminated outline of the keys themselves seems enough to allow dialing in low light situations. I don't think I've ever tried dialing in complete darkness with it but I've never found a need to do so. Overall, I consider this phone an excellent investment and have recommended it to my friends and family. My elderly aunt has also purchased the phone and is very happy with it as well.
