excellent sound quality, great speakerphone, extensive features
By BrianTx
We purchased this phone because we were looking for these features:DECT 6.0answering device on basedialing from the base (including conferencing outside calls with other handsets/intercom)quality speakerphone on base and handsets100% cordless handsetsgood enough battery lifesingle-line phonereasonable priceOf the phones available, The CL83201 package (manufactured by V-tech) best fit these criteria. We have been using the phone for about a week and have observed crystal-clear calling on the speakerphones and handsets. Both the phone and answering device have been very easy to set up and use. We also like the buttons on the phone as they are made of hard plastic rather than the flexible material found in other phones. Having the answering device integrated into the phone is a definite plus as the unit takes up less space. There are very few phones in this price range that are fully cordless, include an answering machine, support dialing/speakerphone in the base, and feature simultaneous handset/base operation. One very minor aesthetic deficiency with the CL83201 is that the phone face-plates are easily smudged and show fingerprints. I can't comment on the audible caller ID feature as we don't subscribe to the service. We have not tested the directory functions on this phone as this is a feature we will not likely use. There are a few things that more expensive phones with similar features sets can do, but currently, these can cost $15-$40 more than the CL83201.Some of the "missing" features: bluetooth cellular linkage, integrated battery backup, call blocking, longer battery life, extended range, alarm function.Other phones considered when making this purchase: Panasonic KX-TG764xM, Panasonic KX-TG664xB, V-Tech DS6151, Uniden D1685-x.The Uniden D1685 has similar (but fewer) features to the CL83201 for about the same price. The Panasonic phones have impressive features, but cost much more. I noticed mixed reviews on Panasonic speakerphone quality, but was unable to test for myself. The DS6151 is a two-line phone. It costs about the same for the base-handset combo as the CL83201 including an extra handset. The features are otherwise almost identical. Two-line phones have extra buttons for the second line that can be confusing and unnecessary, so we opted to avoid this, even though the rated battery life was slightly better on the DS6151.In summary, at its price point (about $60 when purchased), the AT&T CL83201 has an impressive feature set and impressive sound quality.

On the fence. It's just okay.
By T. Kamen
I work from home and purchased this phone so I could have a cordless if I needed to step away from my desk, but wanted a speaker phone for every time else. While I am happy with the features and the call quality while using the handset, the speaker phone is horrible. I can hear people just fine, but nearly everyone I speak to says I sound like I am under water and it is near impossible to hear me. This is the speaker from the base of the phone that is the problem. If I use the speaker on the handset it seems to be fine. However you cannot charge the phone while using the handset speaker without ending the call so if you are on a long call you may run risk of draining the battery dead.

Liked it
By Rebecca Mackenzie
The phone did what it was supposed to do. I liked the ability to use caller id to make an entry into the directory. Only problem, the black on gray screen with caller id is hard for me to read.
