By L. Russo
I was using an ATT CL82201 phone which is very similar to this unit (except it's gray). When my Mom needed a cordless phone I gave her mine and ordered the CL82203 on Amazon to replace it.The phones worked, sound was good- but when people would call the answering machine wouldn't pick up. Once the caller would hang up, the machine would finally begin recording... by which time the call was done with, leaving me with a string of messages that were all dial tones or busy signals. I triple checked that answering was on along with every other setting possible- from number of rings before answering, to caller ID, to announce. After exhausting everything I could find in the manual I decided I had to give customer service a call- something I try to avoid whenever possible with a company like AT&T.After a bunch of voice prompts and about an 8 minute hold I get, no surprise, a rep in the Philippines. Classic script oriented rep who, after asking me to go through a set series of fixes said to try and reset the unit by unplugging and then plugging it back in. It didn't help and she said the unit was defective and had to be returned. I wasn't happy about it but thankfully purchased from Amazon and was able to return the phone with relatively little hassle. The CL82201 I had before worked great, unfortunately this unit was a dud.

By KWJ
This is the first cordless phone I've had to purchased in recent years. I had a Panasonic cordless phone that lasted about 8 years and just started to act up plus we lost one of the handsets. I've only had the phone a few days but wanted to let folks know about the overall volume level. The maximum volume level is very low and if you are hard of hearing - this is not the phone for you! The level is only 2/3rds that of my old phone. I kept the phone for convenience but felt the need to inform. Thanks.Updated 7/28/13 -Additional Note - Phone system states it has 10 different ringtones however the ringtone in the base unit (answering system) can not be changed. If you change the ringtones in the handsets then they conflict with base unit ringtone which again is not changeable. Plus you can't turn off the ringer on the base unit to stop the conflicting ringtones. Options are kind of messed up - as if the handsets options weren't matched to the base unit options. Not overly pleased ... lower the overall rating to a 2-star.
