Works great in my townhouse.

I bought this unit when the batteries on my old wireless Uniden phone system started to go bad. It's always cheaper to buy a new phone system then it is to replace the batteries on three wireless phones. Since I was also replacing an old Linksys VOIP router that was tied into my Vonage account with an Cisco-Linksys E4200 Dual-Band Wireless-N Router wireless router. After seeing a few reviews on C-Net I decided this was worth the gamble, especially for the great bargain I found on E-bay.I keep base unit centered in my home in the main living room since it has caller ID. Hard part was I had to route an Ethernet cord from the router through the walls and to the base. I keep one phone on each floor including the furnish basement. Sound is great on most calls but I notice that on some incoming cellphone calls the volume drops but only on the basement phone (Not sure which providers). Even at home my important calls come through my cell phone and I skype the family on the computer. So the home phone is only needed for house guest, other family members or whenever the battery is dead on the cell.Although not as good as my old Uniden, overall this phone system works great and it does more then my old Uniden phone system since it has Vonage. I really only wanted to drop a 1/2 star because of the volume problem. Which may not be the cause of the phone system but the location of the basement phone itself.

Vonage is a great way to have a home phone and not go broke. This is a very usable product.

Free with new Vonage account

I got this set free at Walmart from the Vonage sales rep. The service seems to work as well as my old land line does. The phone itself has a good range, better than my old Vtech. I didn't measure the distance, but I would guess that 300 feet from inside of my apartment to a neighbors place is about right. I did not lose a connection, so I can't comment on exactly how far teh range is.I can't put my finger on what I don't like about the set. It is more difficult to hear conversations on than the Vtech. From what I can see the hearing unit is not as recessed as the Vtech unit. Maybe it is simply a matter of getting used to the new construction. I reverted to using the Vtech. As VDV23-CVR cost nothing, I don't feel bad about not using the phone. Maybe I'll give it another try when I get in my new digs late next week. The Vtech battery life is lousy. Using the free set makes more sense than buying new batteries or another phone set. I can't replace my ears, so I have to use equipment that works with those that I have.
