A few oddities don't keep this phone from being really good

This is my second Uniden phone and I've found them to be reliable and generally good. This one is not an exception.THE GOOD- Handsets are slim and easy to carry and hold. Bigger hands might be annoyed at how small it is but it fits my hands just find.- Key pad lights up.- Reception area is great.- Battery life is good. Not amazing but will last off the charger for a long time.- Call quality is excellent in both directions.- Works well with a good quality wired headset (e.g. Plantronics.)- Buttons on the base are nice and large. Buttons on the handsets are decent.- Intercom feature lets you call other rooms.THE BAD- Speakerphone is not duplex meaning you oftentimes have to wait for the other party to stop talking before you can speak or they won't hear you. Yuck!- Some controls (e.g. ringer volume, mute) are hidden in odd places.- No way to silence one incoming call ringer. "Do Not Disturb" will silence the call but you have to remember to turn it off after the call goes away or any future calls won't ring.- Caller ID and phonebook are by device (e.g. handset, base.) This means you have to copy over entries to each device. We have three handsets and a base. I gave up trying to do that.

Great small-office phone

I purchased this phone system for our small business with 8 employees, mostly for the fact that it is a 2 line phone with an intercom feature and a base unit that also has a wireless headset. So far I'm very pleased.After reading some of the other reviews, I was a bit nervous about the reception dropping out, and purchased an expansion base to increase the range. Our office isn't terribly big (about 5,000 sq. feet), but is in a historic building that has stone walls and an old bank vault directly between the two halves of the office. Despite the obstacles, the phone preforms admirably. The sound quality is great, the signal meter shows full bars anywhere in the building, and we've never had trouble connecting or had any complaints on the other end of the call. The headsets need to be a bit louder, and the speakerphone on the headsets is still a bit quiet too. The base works better for speakerphone calls if you need to make one. The ringer works a bit too well, it's pretty loud, and has rung while I was on the other line right in my ear. You can set the call to "Do not disturb" which will stop that and block intercoms to that headset, but is a bit cumbersome to do each time and not a great solution.Feature wise, we get pretty much what we need. The phone can intercom and transfer calls to a specific phone you have in the system. You can label each phone with a banner that syncs across the system so you don't have to remember which unit number goes to which person, very handy for intercoms and call transfers. We have a voicemail account with our service provider, and don't use the answering machine part of the phone. The phone actually detects when we have new voicemails though, something I don't recall seeing mentioned in the manual, so we can see at a glance if we have a message waiting instead of dialing in just to check. The phonebook is nice and works well with contacts, but you can only sync all the contacts one unit at a time, instead of all contacts across all units at once. And it really should be automatic, but at least it syncs all the contacts in the unit and isn't an issue if you only have a few headsets. There are plenty of ways to use different ringtones for each line, unit, or contact, but there are only like 8 lame ringtones, so that's pretty useless. Overall, it's very easy to use, set up is easy, it handles multiple lines well, and just works.

Surpasses my expectations. Replaced a 10 year old Panasonic 2 Line System that always had limited battery life. Became critical once I started working fully from a home office. Uniden System has been easy to operate, program and has great range, clarity, and resists electronic noise from microwave, TV and other sources of "noise".
