3Long Time Uniden Fan Underimpressed with This
By HN
Have always bought Uniden cordless phones b/c they are the best based on my experience with multiple brands. I upgraded from my Uniden 5.8 ghz phones to this model simply b/c I wanted more handsets. This phone is only average. Problems include shorter range for reception compared to previous Uniden models, low volume on both speaker phone and regular settings, no speed dial, and funny shape so that it will not stand up if you want to set it down to talk hands-free. Also, instead of the display lighting up when you have a voice mail message, you only get a tiny icon showing--so it is not as obvious to see you have a message waiting. And, if you want a wall mount for the base unit, you have to order it separately from Uniden directly for additional cost. Summary: average cordless phone, fair price for that many handsets, but does not live up to Uniden reputation.

3Great phone - terrible battery
By Matt J.
I have the 1580-5 but the entire 1580-# line is essentially the same with the numeric suffix indicating the number of phones. I love the phone. Feature rich and good functionality. I won't give a rundown on all of the features as there are many other reviews that list these. I bought this set on sale and condsider it a great value for the most part. However, I have to knock off 2 stars due to the horrible batteries. After about 7 months one battery failed to hold any kind of charge - pick the phone up off of the charger and it goes dead immediately. After about 15 months, the others have not failed completely but are holding charges for shorter and shorter durations. I've seen batteries listed as a common complaint on many cordless phones. Clearly a case where phone technology has far exceeded battery technology - at least at this price point.

4Uniden DECT1580-5 - a lot to like
By D. M. Blevins
We added a Uniden DECT1580-5, to our litany of fones. I wanted the intercom capability and this is just superior. We have the 5 handsets in 3 bedrooms, my home office and near the TV. The office is in a sunken area downstairs and reception to the bedrooms upstairs at the other end of the house is as clear and strong as any telecom I've heard. It exceeds my expectations. I thought there may be a range problem but the handsets work great. We called friends in Spain this morning and the connection was as clear as if it were next door. Range to a deck outside was excellent. There was no interference or signal degradation at all.As many who've rated the Uniden DECT 6.0 phones (including the 1580 series) noted, setup could not possibly be easier. The "manual" in the box is minimal, but covers everything you need to know for all the basics. And it's nicely laid out to make it easy to read and easy to find things. It would have been better if the complete manual was included but I assume that was a cost saving factor. The system is very good value for cost and the full manual is available online for download.I saw a couple of criticisms in other reviews about the earpiece. We have no trouble at all, in spite of the 2 small slits for sound that some found inadequate.PROS:* Ease of use* Clone phonebook entries, either all or individually, between headsets* Intercom function* Range and signal clarity* SOME lighted keys* Each handset can be named to make intercom calling more useful* Up to 6 handsets can be registered to the baseCONS:* While the keypad IS lighted, the Clear, Menu, Talk and End keys are not. This makes it difficult to place calls (including intercom) in dim lighting until you memorize where the keys are located.* When you initiate an intercom call, the handset you call FROM also rings. I don't get that and it's VERY annoying. On a good note, if anyone is in the room where you are trying to connect via intercom they WILL pick up - just to silence the annoying ring!* Ditto the find feature. If you are searching for a handset that slipped under furniture cushions it's hard to hear over the ring tone from the handset from which you initiate the search.IMPROVEMENTS:* In this day and age it is inexcusable that the base does not have a USB connector to enable phone book management from a PC/notebook computer* Uniden could disable the handset tones from SENDing or SEARCHing handsets on intercom and find.
