4Excellent..what I needed
By JNY
Excellent, I had previous WIFI VOIP phones: 2 major problems, battery charge and signal quality, which is quite variable over wifi. This solves the problem since the phone component functions like a cordless phone with DECT technology. The wifi is great, web based. allows 8 SIP settings, easy to configure. i got this because I could not wait for the Siemens S450 IP which may not even be released in the US.the prev reviewer described all the features pretty muchI will deal with the negatives1. I wish it could interface with outlook. the other snoms have callerID popups from outlook contacts, not the M3. the M3 needs an archaic CSV file upload that wipes out the current directory2. I wish the screen could be more customizable. the clockface is ok but I would rather have a picture or the weather, etc3. I wish the base station would have an outgoing RJ-11 port. I could easily use one of my VOIP numbers as a fax number and have it output to my fax machine. at present, I can use my callcentric number to receive a fax, but cannot send a fax using my VOIP.

4Good, but not excellent
By Larry R
We purchased a pair of these lightly used as our initial experience with DECT VOIP phones. The phones work as advertised, though we're not using many of the features. Battery life is excellent, and the chargers that are separate from the base can be placed in convenient locations. Speakerphone is *LOUD*, and quite intelligible. Now the downside: Range is so-so, but that's the fault of the DECT spec, not Snom; with the base station next to the VOIP server in the basement, we couldn't reach the other end of the house. But with the server relocated to a second floor bedroom near the middle, coverage was fine. The biggest downside is that the units have a 'cheap' feel to them; the plastic is kind of flimsy, and the LCD display is washed-out and has a very narrow viewing angle. I'm not sure the handset would survive a drop to concrete. All in all, worth the money, but you'll never confuse this with a Bell System/Western Electric product.

4great wireless option for home voip
By Nick
The Snom M3 works as promised. This makes an attractive option for home voip users, both in terms of price point and functionality. Options for wireless voip range from usb tethered base stations to wifi enabled handsets. While the former is usually the least expensive option, it means a computer has to be on, logged in and often connected to proprietary services (EG skype). The later option, wifi handsets, are sexy but often not ready for prime time. When used outside of closed systems (EG Cisco or Polycom) they often do not support modern wireless standards like WPA or 802.11G; not to mention they carry a hefty price tag. 'The Snom M3 lays somewhere between a traditional cordless phone and a VoIP device. The base station has a ethernet jack rather than a rj45 phone jack. The wireless technology is the same that is used in most traditional cordless phones - DECT which operates outside of the 2.4ghz spectrum (an added bonus when used around wifi networks). DECT has a longer range than WiFi and tends to work through walls more effectively.Configuration was a snap, pressing volume up on the handset shows the base station's IP address. There is a web based config utility that asks for things like server, user name and password. I was up and running with my Asterisk setup in less than 5 minutes - maybe the easiest VoIP phone setup for my to date.
