Solid quality. No switch. POE or Power Brick?

I have about 20 of these on my business phone system (Free PBX / Asterisk). They have worked well in our environment which has some people working in traditional office roles and other people working in light industrial production roles.Pro:* The phones are easily converted from resting on a desk to 'wall-mount' (no adapter needed- just flip around two parts of the phone).* Solid feel in the hand and a handsome look on the desk* Good or maybe great sound quality* Flexible configuration for whatever PBX you are deployingNeutral but noteworthy:* no back-light on the LCD display* not 'HD' sound quality (whatever that means)* Do you need a power supply or not? (If your network switch provides P.ower O.ver E.thernet 'POE', then your phone can be electrified from the network switch. Otherwise, you need to have a power supply (aka 'power brick') and plug the phone into an electrical outlet. I've lived both ways and definitely prefer a POE setup- it's worth the additional 30%-40% expense for a POE network switch. Fewer wires. Fewer points of failure. Having read IP phone reviews for years, this power supply issue seems to frequently confuse / disappoint newbies. Read your product description carefully so that you are buying the right version: "with power supply" or "no power supply included".* no built-in network switch (if you have limited LAN wiring available, or have limited ports available on your LAN switch, it sure is handy to have a phone with a built-in switch. That allows you to have your PC and your phone 'share' one physical connection to your main LAN switch. The 321 lacks that feature, but, then again, you might not need it.Con:* Polycom's complicated configuration options- The phone is configured/programmed in 3 ways. 1) some settings for 'admins' and for 'users' are accessed with the LCD screen on the phone itself. 2) Other settings are configured using a web browser 3) The ultimate control comes in a couple of XML files that one can edit. Method #1 & #2 are intuitive. Method #3 provides tremendous customization, but is not friendly for the absolute beginner.If you step up to the Polycom 335 model, you get a backlight and a built-in switch. The 335's also provide 'HD audio'. My naked ear can't tell the difference between the 335's "HD" and the 321's non-HD. The backlight is quite nice. Everything else is nearly identical, so you can mix and match 321s and 335s on your system without disorienting a user that happens to use both models.The Polycom 321 is a good, low-risk choice if you are getting started with an IP phone system.

Great Entry Level VoIP Phone

We have 3 of these now. It's great entry level phone at a decent price. You do need the power supply for it if your router/switch does not support PoE (power over ethernet)

PoE - Power Over Ethernet

Solid phone, lighter and smaller than the older Polycoms also has a two column display (older ones had 4). Also it dose not come with the 48v DC power adapter as it is for connecting via POE which I didn't notice when I bought it, I was able to find a power adapter at another website for about $30, so the phone wasn't as good of a deal as I had thought originally.
