A mixed bag
By zemes
Pros:1. Fairly good build quality;2. clean sound;3. light and portable;4. comes with a USB sound card (mine absolutely did, but it seems they changed that, as I read some reviews complaining about not receiving the USB soundcard);5. quite effective sound insulation;6. short and light cable suitable for laptop;7. in-line volume and mic control.8. a nice travel case.Cons:1. Very uncomfortable to wear. The ear tab must be properly placed to stabilize the thing, but when it's placed stably, it is quite uncomfortable to wear. To me, 15 minutes was too long. I have a Plantronics MX510 which can be worn for hours without noticeable discomfort.2. The soft cover (white) over the earbuds can easily fall off and get lost. I used other microphones that have a similar design and know it will happen. If you use it frequently and you're not a super organized and careful person, I'd be surprised that you still have that earbud cover after several months of use. Once you lose the cover, the whole thing becomes useless because it cannot be stabilized on your ear.3. The microphone isn't a sensitive type. The input volume is quite low. But on the positive side, the sound is pretty clean, especially when it's used with a USB sound card that comes with the headset.4. The idea of sound insulation really does not go very well with a microphone. It's great for listening only, but it feels awful when you speak to microphone when the your ear canal is blocked by the earbud. If you have experienced ear discomfort during airplane takeoff or landing, you get the idea how this microphone feels when you listen and speak at the same time. But this is not a problem of this model in particular, but rather a common problem for this type of design. You may get used to it, but I can't.5. You'd need an extension cord if you want to use it with a desktop. But this is no fault of the headset itself, because it is designed for laptops, and for which purpose the short cord is actually a benefit.6. Too expensive. Amazon has it for about $60. I think $20-$30 would be fair for a product like this (But that's assuming that the unit comes with a USB soundcard; if they have taken away the USB soundcard, I would say this thing is worth probably just $10-$15).

Almost perfect...
By L. Kremmel
I really love the concept of this headset... it is almost my dream headset, there are only a couple ways I'd improve on it...For the price it's as good or better than I expected. First the good things about it: I got it to work with my iPhone! -using a Y stereo adapter- (3.5mm male iPhone compatable to 2-female 3.5mm) SKU U45584 from PartsSearch. The foam earbuds work best for me and the microphone is very lightweight and better than inline mics and does a better job of extraneous noise reduction than inline mics. The mic is kind of quiet when used with the iPhone and I had to practice with the voice recorder to determine the best position for pickup. It is fairly out of the way and unobtrusive when worn. Phone conversations are in stereo!(with the aforementioned adapter) but you will not hear yourself talking, this bothers some people but I got used to it in about 5 minutes, it actually reminds me to speak up a bit for the mic. Okay, so things I would improve on: it is not 100% comfortable, it is no worse than other slightly heavy earbuds and definitely better than the stock earbuds that come with iPhone. I plan on getting custom molded ear pieces anyway that I can put on any earbuds which will make it fit tighter, more comfortably, and provide better sound isolation. The drivers are not Shure or Sennheiser quality but they are not crappy or ineffective either. With these headphones lows tones sound better than highs generally and sound isolation is moderately good ( for me, with foam ear piece) It would be nice to be able to hear myself while talking on mic. The ear tab (located only on the mic side) is supposed to fit under a ridge in the ear to better stabilize the mic, but when using one stiff enough to do so it can get annoying after a few minutes... I think getting custom ear pieces will eliminate the need for this part. It would also be nice if, in addition to or aside from the USB adapter, Plantronics provided a Y-type adapter for use on single port devices such as the iPhone that brings the 2 separate channels (mic and headphone) together on a three band connector (2 bands for stereo one for mic). Another improvement I'd make is turning the mic into a removable 3.5mm attachment that can be plugged into the headset (or direct to iPhone) for use as needed... So if I only wanted to listen to music I wouldn't have the mic hanging around. This would also warrant an upgrade in the drivers for truly high quality audio. The mic would be ideal if it had an independent power source like a battery that would boost the pickup and noise reduction power greatly. The USB adapter does this to some degree but on non-computer applications this would be a great feature, plus it could be further integrated to do active noise cancellation. That's about it. Overall this is a good product for the price and I've found ways to use it that make it even more valuable. With a few improvements this product would be amazing, but as it is, it's still unique, better and different than most comparable items. I really like it but, will be customizing it to make it more comfortable and usable.

NOT the USB Version
By E-Consumer
This is not the USB version. The photo is misleading and shows the USB adapter. When Ordering this item: I received the version without USB ".Audio 480 Headset".I did not receive the ".Audio 480 USB Virtual Phone Booth Headset"There are two versions offered by Plantronics, and the Amazon Photo showing the USB adapter is incorrect for this item.
