The Panasonic KXTG5480S Digital Cordless Phone features a 5.8 GHz Giga Range Frequency-Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) Technology. This technology improves calling range and clarity which eliminates cross talk to someone else's phone calls. This cordless system also helps reduce the possibility of eaves dropping because of its rapidly changing transmission frequencies within the 5.8 GHz bandwidth. This technology also operates on a different wavelength with much less traffic than the previous 2.4 HGz tecnology but still has the high levels of security, clarity and range. No need to worry about interference with wireless computer networks either. The Panasonic KXTG5480S has two lines with a LED in-use line indicator. If you have two outside phone lines connected, this unit supports up to 40way conferencing with 2 outline lines, base, and handset. Call Waiting, Caller ID, displays the information of a second caller even while you're on the line. This All-Digital Answering System requires no tapes to reset or rewind. Operation is virtually silent. Once callers reach the answering system, they will be guided through the task of leaving a message. A total of 1 hour worth of messages can be stored. Date and time stamps are automatically recorded with the messages as they are received. The flash memory will hold all recorded messages in case of any power interruptions or failures. 60 Minutes Total Recording Time Voice Menu and Time/Day Stamp 2-Digit LCD Call Counter on Base Remote Control from Handset and Outside Line Memo Recording Up to 4-Way Conferencing (Base, Handset and 2 Outside Lines) Phone Book Sharing Light-Up Indicator with Silent Ringer/Message Alert - Silent ringer light True Voice Paging Voice Enhancer Technology Clarity Booster Dual Keypads, Base and Handset Lighted Handset Keypad 4-Line Backlit LCD on Handset Intercom Handset and Base Unit Speakerphones 4 Selec

Great 2 line phone!
By Denny
I bought this for my work at home office. Its great! I get NO interference from wifi or other electronics in the home. I have it located in my sunroom/office and can go out into the yard, basement, 2nd story, no problems with reception. I can even go out into my detached garage! I bought a headset and walk around on my conference calls all day instead of having to sit at my desk. I am still ramping up on all the bells and whistles, but so far it is making my work day more productive and smoother.

Based failed and no replacement after 14 months
By G. Bova
This portable phone and answering machine worked well for 14 months, and then suddenly the base unit became entirely unresponsive...lights stuck on red, and the phone could no longer talk to the base unit. We called Panasonic support, and they said that if the base unit is unresponsive, there is nothing to be done except to take it to a service center, which is over 100 miles away. We tried the usual things...unplugging and plugging it back in, trying different phone jacks, etc. with no effect. We bought this phone on Amazon and I'm placing this here in case others have experienced the same thing. Not sure if we were just unlucky or if there is a systematic problem with this phone.

Good little workhorse
By brainout
I bought this phone from Amazon in October 2006, thought I made a review of it when also buying the Uniden (see my reviews on Uniden). The latter, I returned. This 2-line phone, I kept. The rechargeable battery lasted from 2006 until Friday last, just after Thanksgiving 2011. Am buying a replacement battery on Amazon this week.Of all the Panasonic cordless phones I've purchased (and I prefer Panasonic phones to others), this one is the best. I've dropped it, packed it poorly and moved it, misconnected it, and it still keeps working. Its description presumes the old DSL setup, but it adapts to later technology. I can leave the apartment and walk almost half a block away, and still the signal transmits well, i.e., when my car died earlier this year, and I had to leave the apartment to tell AAA where to turn on a street, watching the tow truck drive past my location. The signal doesn't interfere with my computers.Downsides: the volume isn't great. That's a problem with digital phones. Analog cordless phones are better, on volume. The other downside is that the manual isn't well-written, so you have to keep re-reading the material. But once you understand the functions, they are easy to remember. Last downside with this model only: the phone book entries can only be accessed via the menu button. So you go through an extra step. Other Panasonic phones allow you to access your phone book with one button. But this phone is a keeper. I'm grateful to have it; the price now on Amazon is so good (I think I paid $200, back in 2006), I might buy another one, if the other Panasonic ever dies (my other Panasonic is KXTG2224, 2.4 Gigarange, much older and still going strong). If you want to know more, just make comments and I'll answer them.
