5Loc8te Your Stuff
By Paul Moskowitz
The Loc8tor system is an example of active RFID, radio frequency identification. RFID is a technology that employs tags (e.g. wireless radio transponders), attached to an object. The tag sends information stored on the tag in response to a radio signal from a reader. The reader receives identification or other information on the signal from the tag. The transponders used in active systems have batteries that power transmitters in the tags. Active RFID systems generally use either the signal strength or the delay time of the signal returned by the tag at three or more reception points in order to locate a tag. Such systems cost many thousands of dollars. The Loc8tor system uses a single receiver, the handheld Loc8tor Homing Device, to locate a tag. Since the Homing Device is very directional, a user can identify the direction of the signal from the tag and get an idea of the tag's distance from the strength of the returned signal. This is a very sophisticated but low-cost system.I have been using Loc8tor for a little over one year. In free space, e.g. hanging a tag from a tree limb, I have been able to receive signals from the tags at 200 feet. The tags are small enough that they can be attached to a cat collar. Because the system operates at a frequency of 2.45 GHz, water containing objects can interfere with reception. (For more information on the interference of water with radio propagation see the film "Crimson Tide.") I have been able to find my cats at a distance of about 100 feet outdoors, and in any room of my house. I have even found their secret hiding places. The system is easy to use once you initialize each tag. One limitation is that you can only locate one tag at a time.I have had to change the AAA batteries in the handheld device once over the past year. The tags also run on batteries. I am not sure how long the batteries in the tags last. When a tag failed to operate after about one year, replacing the tag batteries did not help. However, Loc8tor has said that they will send me a new tag. This is a great system, especially considering the low cost. I suggest a search on Amazon or Google to get the best price.

3Works great but....
By R. Precourt
I purchased this system to replace the "Now you can find it" system that I had, which had gone bad in less than a year. This system works much better by far. It has excellent range, the tag are very small and the display will actually help guid you to your lost items. The tags themselves also beep while being located and have a small blinking light also. I find it very handy. You can have up to 24 tags in the system and can name each one. The only downsides that I have found thus far are that the audio "pitch" does not change on my unit, so it's harder to determine that you're gettiing closer without closely watching the screen. I had done a great deal of research on this item before purchasing it, and every review I watched showed this feature and the product description also states this, however, mine doesn't seem to work. My audio stays exactly the same no matter how close I get and tends to cut in and out a lot while moving around. Also, you are supposed to be able to adjust the keypad volume and locate volume separately, but this does not work; adjusting the locate volume has no effect on anything and adjusting the keypad volume effects everything. I have sent numerous e-mails to the company over the past 90 days and have received no response, aside from an automated acknowledgement that they received my inquiry. This has been disappointing, as my unit may just be defective, but now it's far past the timeframe which I could have received an exchange. All and all, I'm ok with the purchase, as it does at least allow me to locate my items. It was a bit costly, but it makes up for it in actually working well, so that's better than wasting money on something that doesn't work well for a short while, then dies. I've had this system over 3 months and so far it's working just fine. I would recommend this product, but I'm not impressed with the company's support of it.

5Find those remotes~
By T. Streett
We needed something to find the remotes that my daughter hides from my son. Have the Loc8tor on the remote and on my keys. Leave the honing device on the keychain in the house and sure enough can find the remote that was hidden in the couch, basement or in my daughter's room. Same for my keys which are usually in my purse that I sometimes leave in the wrong place in the house.Really interested in the panic tags to put on the kids when they are out in the neighborhood so I can call them for dinner. Great devices!
