Made in China -- need you say more?

The power adapters are made in China and buzz very annoyingly. Other reviews for Gigaset phones have pointed out the same thing, so it's not a real surprise. We exchanged twice through the retailer but the buzzing is always the same. Then I contacted Gigaset support and they pretend they're not aware of the problem. Now they want us to send in not only the power adapter but also the base station. So how are we going to use our phone line in the meantime? Buy another Gigaset? The only reason we're keeping the phone is because the Gigasets are the only Eco-DECT option available in the US though I am considering looking for a better phone in Europe now.Also, when you speak with the loudspeaker on there is some annoying static noise. I do like the menu of the phone, however. It is very easy to use. The menu of the Gigaset A510A is awful.Update October 8, 2012: We are now sending the phone back. Our interactions with the Gigaset customer service were very annoying. They eventually offered to get in touch with their UK office to ask whether they could send us a phone we can use while they have our base station and adapter. Given that we're talking about a cheap power adapter that probably cost them less than $1 and would be very easy to exchange (I would have bought it myself had it been available online), it is not worth the hassle. I also noticed that the Eco-DECT plus function (for which I bought the phone) is not available on the US phones. That means, the phone still emits radiation when not in use. The only thing it does is reduce radiation when you talk and you're close to the base station. Not worth the hassle.

Inherent Flaw

I have quite a few criticisms of this phone but this one is enough for me to cease using it.We screen every call. If I pick up the handset from the cradle/charger WITHOUT TURNING IT ON and take it to my Wife, inform her who it is calling (based upon the caller ID) and she decides not to take the call, the phone is actually alive and the caller can hear everything we are saying. Our previous phone allowed us to listen to what the person says in response to the recorder greeting, question "It's (so and so), do you want to talk to her?", "No, not now", replace the phone and let the caller continue to leave a message. With this phone, picking it up stops the recorder and the caller hears what you are saying. It's like an old wired phone, the caller knows if you pick up but don't answer. That can cause problems.Our previous (and to be returned to) Uniden phone also allowed assignment of recognizable melodies to selected callers so that you knew which family member/friend was calling by sound alone; allowing us to take the call before the recorder kicked in.Also the impetus for getting this phone was pressure from the family to reduce RF/EMF fields. However the full RF reduction ECO modes don't operate in USA, only in Europe.

Perfect Phone

We are very impressed with our new Gigaset phone. It has all of the features of the expensive At&t set it replaced. I was skeptical, but I really like this phone system and it is a great value :)
