Poor Answering Machine Audio Playback Quality

I purchased this phone at a local office supply store for $20 (on sale plus a $5 off coupon). Seemed like a steal! All of the functions of the base and cordless handset seem to work well except for two things. The audio playback of the outgoing announcement and incoming messages is VERY poor. Very 'fuzzy' and containing what sounds like random static. Thinking I had a bad unit, I took it back and exchanged it for another unit. Same issue. I have to assume at this point that this is a design flaw.The second issue is with the base LCD display contrast. The phone only offers three contrast settings which isn't enough if the phone is wall mounted low (in my case on the wall near a kitchen desk). In addition, while the backlit display seems like a nice idea, however, it accentuates the poor display contrast adjustment making it harder to read.Overall, not bad for $20, but if I'd paid full price, the second phone would definitely go back!

Not for IP adapters

This phone is perfect for a land-line. However, if you are considering using it as an IP phone, connecting it to a MagicJack or Skype adapter, you'd better get another model. The ringer circuit in this phone requires a higher voltage than the adapter's output. So, the phone simply does NOT rings if you power it. However, it rings without the power cord, if you don't care about using the wireless handset and the features.

Not that great

I am not sure why the reviews for this device are not lower. Granted it works....sort of. That is the best I can say for it. I purchased this for work when I setup my virtual office a few years ago.The Pros first:1. The handset sounds fine. Not too loud but works OK.2. The voice mail works fine.3. Seems petty but the overall design is blocky and very dated. It feels cheap and old.4. Handset cord is short.The Cons:1. The cordless handsets are total and complete junk. These things all broke or the display died year one. Not to mention they have the worst range of any cordless I have used since the 1990's.2. The speakerphone is worthless. Can barely hear it and no one can hear me worth a darn.I still use this phone, not because I want to but because it won't die totally and that is the threshold to convince work to help replace it. At some point soon I will replace even if it refuses to die.
