I really wanted to keep this phone...
By usaglory
I bought this phone (the single handset version) from a local store (not from Amazon), and even though I really wanted to keep it, I ended up exchanging it for something else. However, it was not due to a problem with the phone itself but because for some reason my main bedroom has terrible reception for any kind of wireless signal (I can't even use my laptop there cause the internet keeps disconnecting, it's spooky hehe!).As you might know, 2.4 GHz phones are prone to interference from appliances such as microwaves, or from computers and other electronic devices that use the same frequency, so I couldn't make a call without it getting disconnected. At first I thought I had received a defective unit, so I exchanged it, the second unit (from a different batch) had the same problem. I had always purchased 900MHz phones and didn't have a problem with those, so I ended up returning this model and settling for a 900MHz model (which solved my problem). However this is really a good phone and had it not been for my specific problem which probably won't apply to many people I would have kept it (it did work fine in the rest of my house). What I liked:- All the features I needed, none of the stuff one ends up paying for but never using.- The sound quality is superb: better than any other 2.4GHz phone I've ever used (including some high-end Uniden models). Amazing clarity and static-free performance.- Very good battery life: after an initial 16-hour charge, I kept it off its base for 5 days and I still could make my calls (although I had to keep redialing everytime I got disconnected) and even then I didn't get a low-battery warning.- Lightweight (almost TOO light).- Compact recharging base.- Very nice finish.- Inexpensive.- Made by GE.What I didn't like/could be improved:- The numbers are not backlit, just the screen, so it is very hard to dial correctly under low lighting conditions.- Volume: I felt the volume even at the highest setting was a tad low. Good enough for home use I guess, but not under very noisy conditions (loud TV, or loud children). It met my needs but it could be better.- Even though it is supposed to have three (or maybe it was four, can't remember right now) "different" ring styles, the reality is that it is the same tone but with different speeds between each ring.- The backside of the phone has a convex shape, which means that if you lay it on a table you can easily send it flying away accidently because it doesn't sit flat, in fact you can spin it like you would spin a top. If you lay it facing down then you would be doing it right on the screen which can easily scratch it. This is more annoying then it sounds cause there is no way to safely put it down anywhere besides the recharging base, or maybe a non-solid surface like the bed.- Even though the finish is nice, the color scheme is not (white and gray unit with black highlights all over, green back-lighting and a weird looking turquoise-colored talk-button right smack in the middle of the unit).- Made in China: so who knows how long it might last.To summarize: if an inexpensive 2.4GHz phone is what you are after, then you can't go wrong with this unit, if you think you might have problems due to interfering signals from other electronic devices then I would respectfully suggest you go with 900MHz technology. Thanks!
