3Some issues with this phone
By Telstar
The phone is easy to set up, and as another reviewer notes the directory is automatically sent to the handsets.Cons:1. The lack of a message light is NOT compensated for by optional 10 second apart beeps. I often decide if I will answer from another room at night, and therefore do not want the base beeping if I decide not to answer. The only indication is a rather dim LCD flashing number (small) on the extreme left of the display.2. The display is horribly used on the base. The word BASE takes up the entire first line, the second line is blank, and the third line has the message counter, time, and date....and they are small. You cannot change contrast settings for the display (it is too dark when the backlight is off.3. The speakerphone appears to me to be a problem. The ClearSpeak technology (an automatic gain function)often cuts off the first part of speech after a pause. This is annoying...they needed to set the delay to cut off twice as long.4. The bright orange backlights stay on as long as you are talking. This is another irritation, since the brightness of this on the base gets old very quickly under regular light (the display is lit from above as well as behind).5. I have another phone that does not require batteries to run with power off...even for the corded handset, they suggest installing batteries for power failure backup.

4Good clarity, nice little performer so far.
By J. Miller
Well, I got this phone today after returning a Uniden which sounded too muffled for my liking. I found the buttons solid and easy to read, and the setup seemed fairly intuitive to me. I actually had most of the basic features setup through my own playing around before I even cracked open the manual. Now, I should mention that my phone needs are simple: I don't have call waiting, caller ID, or a special voicemail service so I can't speak to the merits of those features, but for someone who simply uses the phone for basic calls and basic answering machine features, I already like how it sounds and programs out of the box.Pro's so far for my simple tastes:- Buttons easy to press and see- Can do most of the same setup on the satellite phones as you can on the base which is nice if you're sitting down and need to make some feature changes without the base in front of you.- Directory info logged into one place transfers to the other phones in the system.- Satellite phones aren't super heavy, but they don't feel chintzy either.- It's nice having the corded handset on the base in addition to the satellite phones because if you're like me and forget where you put your satellite phones, you always know you can still rush to the base to retrieve an incoming call.- You can set the phone to answer after 6 rings. My old systems answered after 4 rings, and I always felt this was not enough time.Con's so far:- There is no obvious "messages waiting" light indicator! When I get home from work, I'm used to looking all the way across the room to see if I have a flashing light, but now you have to go RIGHT UP to the base to look at the readout and see the blinking "messages waiting" indicator. It's actually not even a light; it is just a number blinking within the rest of the screen readout and no attention is drawn to it at all. I always liked knowing at a quick glance from far away if I had messages waiting so this was a real bummer for me. To compensate, you CAN set the machine to beep every ten seconds to indicate messages are waiting, so I guess I'll employ that feature so my ears can help me detect new messages when my eyes always can't from across the room, but beeping can get old really fast, so I'm not sure if that's the best solution. AT&T, please get an obvious flashing "messages waiting" light in this model. That seems like such a basic feature to omit, I don't get it.- No belt clips for the satellite phones. Some might not care, but I love having the belt clip.I'll see how things go after I've used it for awhile and maybe I'll post again. So far, not bad, and I like the clarity.***UPDATE: December 26, 2010 Well, it's been over a year and my statements above still hold quite true for both the pro's and the con's. The phone is still holding up well, and I used the "page phone handset" a number of times to help me locate where I put the handset but forgot about it! The speakerphone feature can be a tad odd at times because when you set the handset on its flat bottom (like if you wanted to type on your PC and talk to someone simultaneously), the speaker is on the back side of the phone while the mouthpiece is on the front. So, it's a tad odd to hear someone's voice coming from the other side of the phone and I'll compromise by positioning the phone so the speaker faces to my left and the mouthpiece faces to my right. Not a major problem by any means.Still feel good about this product.*** UPDATE: December 27, 2012 This product is still going strong with no problems. One change from my original review, however, is an odd change which I'll try to explain. When I first wrote the review several years ago, I complained that the unit had no blinking light to tell you that you had messages. This was when I had the base unit hooked up to a regular household phone line.Well, I have since switched to using VoiceoverIP via Google Voice for my phone needs. This means I've connected the AT&T base to an OBI110 unit that I bought on Amazon which is then connected to my internet. The AT&T system has no problems working with the VOiP system, but now I DO get a flashing light on the base whenever someone leaves me a message on my Google Voice phone number. There is no way to get rid of the flashing light via the base; I need to log into Google Voice and delete the message via the computer. (I suppose this makes sense because the voicemail is not stored on the base but rather on the Google Voice account.) Once I delete the message from the Google account online, it takes a few minutes for that account to tell the AT&T phone base to stop flashing the light.Overall, though, I'm still very, very pleased with this unit.

5Clear with "Unsurpassed Range"
By Rodolfo Reveles
I purchased the CL81209 which came with two cordless units but no answering unit. We upgraded from an AT&T 5.8 ghz. Range and voice quality are much better. We have 8" concrete walls covered with 2.5" of foam on either side. With the 5.8 ghz I would frequently lose the static filled signal in the Garage - about 50 ft from the base unit. With the new AT&T the voice quality is much better And I can walk more than two hundred feet away from the unit and still get a good signal. We live on a 35 acre lot in the mountains and I frequently take calls outside while working in the garage or in my backhoe. I still need greater range but given the power requirements and the FCC regulations, I think, AT&T has given us maximum range and voice quality (without using a range extender which I am not sure is available with this technology.) AT&T DECT 6.0 Black/Silver Digital Corded/Cordless Answering System (CL84109)Features are fairly intuitive. There are 50 CID numbers and 50 directory numbers. The amber screen is easy to read with out reading glasses for us folks who need them.In summary, Range with clarity were our greatest needs. These phones using DECT 6.0 technology in these areas performed much better than the AT&T 5.8 ghZ.
