5DECT IP phone just works (like a phone should)
By ChrisF
I purchased this W52P cordless model in late August, along with the same manufacturer's T22P desktop model. I'm using the two as a two "extension" system for the same set of three VoIP accounts. My particular observations on the W52P are:(1) Configured and registered the first time - indicating good choice of defaults for the more obscure SIP configuration options.(2) Handset operation is completely intuitive - if you've used any classic Nokia cell phone, or another DECT phone for that matter, you should be able to pick this one up and use it cold.(3) Unlike the T22P, this W52P model DOES indicate in the call history which SIP account a missed call came in on. Since the W52P supports up to five SIP accounts (vs. three for the T22P), this is a fairly important feature.(4) Unlike the T22P, this W52P model DOES NOT support custom ringtones. You can program a distinct (built-in) ringtone for each SIP account, but I found no way to upload your own ringtones as on the T22P.In summary, the W52P is like a wireless phone should be - just set it up and use it. I haven't really tested the effective range (distance to base station) but it seems to work fine for the extent of the yard work that I do.

2Great Start, Disappointing After That
By Trevor K. White
Okay, so in a certain amount of irony, my experience is very different then that of the person who replaced the Panasonic 550 with these Yealink models.I had a great initial experience with these phones - the setup was easy to do. I just plugged in my PhonePower SIP credentials and was off and running placing and receiving calls. The interface on the phones is pretty good, and both the phones and the base station are attractive. Pairing/Naming/Associating lines with handsets was also easy. Unfortunately, the good things stopped there for me on this product.A couple months after I received the product, the people on the other end started complaining of "static" in the line and in my voice - even when I was in close proximity to the base. Additionally, after a month or so of use and after relocating one of the handsets to our master bedroom, the handset would continually beep indicating it was out of range. This seemed strange - after all, it was only approximately 50 feet from the base. However, I purchased the Yealink extender to solve this problem. This didn't make it better, it made it worse. I upgraded the firmware on both the handsets and base station after the Yealink extender failed to pair correctly with the base station. After finally getting the firmware updated on all devices, the Yealink extender caused the handset connecting to it to continually reboot! You couldn't do anything on the phone, much less place a call!Additionally, the battery life on these phones has been very poor. If they are left off the charger for 24 hours, they are dead when you pick them up. I'm not sure if that was quoted in the stand-by time, but it was surprising to me anyway. If I could send this phone back to Amazon and be done with it, I would be. Unfortunately, it's out of warranty, so I'm stuck eating the cost of the IP Phone which replaced it (in this case, the Panasonic TGP500), which has been awesome so far. No more static and plenty of range out of the handsets and base. One note: I could have ultimately received a defective unit from Yealink. It's certainly possible - but the fact that the issues started outside of the return/warranty period make me think the product just has flaws that haven't been addressed. It's a phone, and it's just supposed to work. The WAF factor meant it had to go quickly.

54.5 stars out of 5 for a competent open standards based system.
By J. WANG
Main points:1. Standards based. Very easy to configure and administer.2. Very good sound volume and clarity.3. Proving to be more reliable than the Panasonic system it is replacing.Purchased this unit to replace a Panasonic KX-TGP550 SIP DECT system, which was having some connectivity issues with Phonepower, but not Callcentric through Sonicwall security appliance.Panasonic has better buttons and overall ergonomics. Sound clarity, Panasonic has a slight edge. However, Yealink has a huge advantage in adjustable handset volume over the Panasonic handsets. The Yealink handsets volume should not be an issue at all. It can be low to what I considered loud without resorting to speakerphone. On the Panasonic, the handset volume is limited and presents some drawbacks for whose hearing is not as sensitive. After the change, even with IPS (Intrusion Prevention) enabled on the Sonicwall, the Yealink unit has no issues with Phonepower, whereas the Panasonic unit will fail on registrations or experience 1-way audio. Callcentric was never an issue with either phone system. The Yealink system is limited to 5 total cordless handsets (which means, you can only add 4 additional handsets) linked to the base. The Panasonic allowed 6 additional cordless handsets on top of the traditional corded handset on the base unit.Yealink base unit web interface can be easily accessed, administered and configured. It is leaps and bounds ahead of the Panasonic. The Panasonic, on the other hand, cannot be accessed remotely, unless web interface is enabled through physical interaction on the phone system itself for up to a maximum of 24 hours.Upgrading firmware is simple and clear on the Yealink. Firmware is easily located on Yealink's website, unlike the Panasonic. Upgrading the firmware on the Yealink base unit is done through the web interface. The Yealink cordless handset firmware can be upgraded through a USB interface, connected directly to the computer.
